Felix Meritis and Humanity in Action are pleased to invite applications for P!oneers—a set of two sessions that will take place in Amsterdam from April 1-3, 2009 and in New York City from November 19-20, 2009. Are you a Pioneer? Apply for the P!oneers sessions and meet other cutting edge thinkers and entrepreneurs in diverse professional fields —for a transatlantic dialogue into the frontiers of civic engagement and social entrepreneurship in Amsterdam and New York City!!
Participants
Participants will be young professionals drawn from a broad range of fields, including academia, the arts, business, health, education, government, grassroots activism, media and technology. You will gain knowledge and inspiration from exploring how innovative thinkers from different cities and disciplines are meeting the challenges of urban, social and civic engagement.
Program
You will participate in two conferences with recognised experts in Amsterdam and New York City. The Pioneers sessions will be a mix of workshops, seminars, site visits, and informal, off-the-record conversation. You will participate in drafting a manifesto, a vision statement for their two cities based upon the insights drawn from their experiences during the sessions.
Public celebration
Following each conference, there will be a public celebration in both cities (in Amsterdam on April 5, 2009) to engage a wider and diverse audience of all ages in thinking about the frontiers of active citizenship. Beyond the sessions in Amsterdam and New York City, Pioneers will continue their dialogue through a virtual network.
Costs
All expenses related to participation in the two Pioneers sessions will be covered, including all expenses related to transatlantic travel to Amsterdam or New York City.
Application
Applications should be submitted through the Pioneers website at www.pioneers.nu until February 17, 2009. The selection committee may choose to conduct interviews with some applicants. Applicants should be available for interviews during the week of February 23-27. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision in the first week of March.
