Frans Jansen

Frans Jansen (Haarlem, 1962) is a much sought-after photographer for magazines and advertising.

Much of his work revolves around young women. The most striking aspect of his photographs is the natural and unselfconscious way in which his models pose for his camera. It creates the impression that the photographs are created completely candidly. The relaxed, private tone of the photographs lends them a certain intimate, even erotic charge.

Jansen processes his photographs in a unique and independent-minded way: He purposely damages his negatives, then re-records the photographs, selects a detail, superimposes the images, and then processes them in chemicals. To create a sense of a shared past, he gives the photographs a slightly yellow or sepia tint.
