Fonds voor beeldende kunsten, vormgeving en bouwkunst

The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (known in the Netherlands as Fonds BKVB) is the national body responsible for awarding grants to individual visual artists, designers and architects. Its objective is to nurture excellence in visual arts, design and architecture in the Netherlands.

Although fully financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Fonds BKVB is an autonomous foundation and its decision-making process is wholly independent.

Grants
All grant applications are laid before advisory panels, which assess the applications on the basis of the application forms and accompanying documentation. Grants are awarded only in the case of a positive recommendation from the relevant advisory panel. Because panel members are personally involved in or closely associated with the world of visual arts, design and architecture, the Fonds BKVB is able to respond promptly and effectively to developments in the various fields. The names of all panel members are listed on this website.

The Fonds BKVB offers a wide range of grant options starting with the Basic Grants for visual artists and autonomous designers and the Incentive Grants for visual artists, designers and architects. It also offers Cultural Mediation Grants for cultural theorists, critics and exhibition curators. In addition, the Fonds BKVB has access to a number of artist-in-residence studios in various countries and in alternate years, it organises an architecture study tour. The organisation recently established the Pilot Projects with a view to promoting outstanding projects. Finally, the Fonds BKVB presents the Oeuvre Awards in each discipline, the Award on Art Criticism, and the Benno Premsela Award every two years.

The Fonds BKVB operates a small exhibition space, which regularly features work that was produced with the assistance of one of the Fonds BKVB grants.
