De Amsterdamse Theater Academie

The Amsterdam Theatre Academy (New Style) is the programme par excellence for training as an executive theatre producer in every conceivable theatre discipline from cabaret to the stage and from musical theatre to movement.

The programme teaches graduates to set up and produce their own theatre shows independently: A theatre show in exactly the form you wish to give it, whether cabaret or stage, musical theatre, youth theatre or movement, and everything else in between. Upon completion of the programme, you will have learnt to work independently and will have the necessary knowledge to enable others to participate in your artistic process. You will be able to conceive a concept for a show and to execute it in the professional theatre circuit. You will also have all the necessary skills to perform as a fully-fledged professional in other theatre producers’ shows.

You will start to produce your own shows completely independently (with other students) in your first year. In addition to ‘classroom’ teaching, the Academy is also a workplace; a place where you will be able to convert your personal creative ideas into theatrical forms. In order to give you a solid foundation as an independent stage and theatre producer and to ensure that you are familiar with all the different facets of the professional disciplines, the programme also provides a number of workshops throughout the course. The workshops include facets such as lighting techniques, theatre design (décor, etc.), as well as the business side of the stagecrafts.

The programme also offers workshops over and above the regular professional education separately from the course as such; however, the programme and the workshops could also be linked. This is known as the New Style.
