Centrum Beeldende Kunst Utrecht

Utrecht Centre for Visual arts

The Centrum Beeldende Kunst Utrecht (CBKU) was founded in 1992 with the aim of promoting the production and distribution of the visual arts in the Province of Utrecht.

The CBKU does this by:
- Providing services to artists, the provincial council, the municipal councils, non-profit organisations, private individual and companies for the execution of activities in the public interest;
- Providing information on the visual arts;
- Providing consultancy and mediation services in purchasing, sales, assignments and exhibitions;
- Developing and maintaining a documentation and information function;
- Initiating activities that promote public discussion of the arts.

Vision and mission
The Centrum Beeldende Kunst Utrecht:
- Is an advocate for the visual arts in the province of Utrecht
- is a contact point and helpdesk for artists, commissioning bodies and the public
- takes initiatives, develops projects, and picks up signals from the field
- serves an example and service function
- provides complimentary services to other local initiatives in the visual arts
- seeks cooperation, builds networks, and combats competition and falsification in the market
- promotes the input and quality of the visual arts
- stimulates public interest in contemporary visual arts

The CBK uses a very broad definition of art: it serves the independent arts, including painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography and the new media, as well as the contributing function of the visual arts in architecture, design, landscape art and spatial planning.

The CBK wants to be a meeting place; a place where artists, designers and architects like to meet to talk to one another and to participate in discussions; a place where specialists can find information on theoretical and practical developments, as well as visions and statements made by other artists.
