Profile: Roek Lips

Roek Lips is the Net Coordinator for the TV channel, Nederland 3, at the Nederlandse Publieke Omroep (Dutch Public Broadcast). Lips began his career as a freelance theatre producer, author and show producer at various Dutch broadcasters (IKON, VARA, NCRV and NOS). “My motto is: If you really want to change things, you must try to shift boundaries. This does not necessarily mean that you should live on the edge, only that you shouldn’t be afraid of failure. You need to go for the extreme, not live a life of mediocrity. It applies to the Public Broadcasters as much as to individual human beings; most certainly when it comes to creativity.”

Best advice I ever received:
Be clear in the decisions that you make.

Biggest blunder:
During a rehearsal for a (live) TV show (Sonja op maandag), I tried out an aerosol spray (was part of the content of the show) to repel dogs. Came from America. Turned out to be CS gas. Everyone in the studio ended up in the street with streaming eyes.
